Summer is here in Steamboat and the living’s easy! There are so many activities and events going on this weekend and coming week that if you manage to do half of them you are doing good!   • Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series — Brent Romick Rodeo Arena, 7:30 p.m.
    Cowboys and cowgirls compete at classic rodeo events. Barbecue will be sold starting at 6 p.m., and pre-rodeo entertainment runs from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the gate for adults and $8 for children ages 7 to 15.   • J. Mitch and the Electric Switch — Tugboat Grill & Pub, 10 p.m. $5 cover.

  • Global dance festival — The Powder Room, 10 p.m. Free.

  • Free Summer Concerts: Big Kenny Howelsen Hill, 5 p.m.
    Big Kenny, of country duo Big & Rich, performs the first show of this year’s Free Summer Concert Series. The Truffle Pig is Here & Opens it’s Doors in Steamboat

The Truffle Pig in the new One Steamboat Place building at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area has opened the much anticipated restaurant. The restaurant is sporting a rustic elegant look with comfortable slope side dining options.

Expect some phenomenal cuisine from Executive Chef Ezra Duker from the Urban Farmer at the Nines Hotel in Portland. “He will oversee the menu of seasonally inspired cuisine. Chef Duker places an emphasis on simple, straightforward preparation utilizing the very best ingredients the Yampa Valley has to offer as well as sourcing key items from the best places around the globe. His vast array of culinary experience includes Chef de Partie at the renowned French Laundry, studying various styles of wine production at The Napa Valley Reserve’s cellar and knowledge of farm-to-table practices from the progressive Noble Rot Wine Bar in Portland,” stated a press release from the Timbers Resorts which own the Truffle Pig.

Lunch specialties include starters like the Baby Beet Salad a selection of flatbreads ranging from Roast Garlic and Good Olive Oil to Foraged Mushroom with Confit Shallots. Specialties on the lunch menu include Wild Pacific Salmon, a French Onion Dip, with Beef Short Rib. Standouts from the dinner menu include Day Boat Scallops with Cherry Tomatoes, Sweet Corn Pudding and Bacon, Roasted Saddle of Colorado Lamb, along with handmade pastas. One of the most anticipated dishes of the Truffle Pig is the classic presentation of Mussels and Frites served in a large cast-iron pot.

Ford Mustang Roundup Event Just in Time for Father’s Day!

Revving engines, waxed shining paint, smooth leather interior and lots of horse power! Get dad up here and see these supped up cherried-out Ford Mustangs in Steamboat Springs, Co.

If you haven’t decided what to do for your dad on Father’s Day- this is it! Especially if he has ever liked a car! Over 500 Mustangs from the Rocky Mountain Mustang Clubs will convene downtown on Oak Street to make all the spectators oohh and ahhh and sing “Lord won’t you buy me a Ford Mustang…and a Mercedes Benz would be nice too!”

Events for the weekend include Autocross on Friday from 7:30am- 4:30pm which is a timed course event at the Meadows Parking Lot. Saturday is the Car Show with all 500 or more Mustangs lining downtown Oak Street (just one block off of main street) just showing off all their horse power, shiny paint jobs and beautiful interiors on all makes and models of the Mustang. Don’t miss the Shelbys and my favorite year, the 1969’s! Sunday morning at 10am will be the final yeehaw for these Mustangs with the Car Show awards held at the Steamboat Grand.

This is a perfect weekend to get away to Steamboat for Father’s Day! And even if the whole family is not car fans, there is shopping all along Main Street that will make the ladies drool and Saturday also hosts the free family fun fest. New Restaurants Bring New Flavor and Flair to Steamboat

Spring has sprung new restaurants in Steamboat just in time for the summer! And all are promising new flavors, beautiful locations and food you won’t want to miss.

Now, most of us have not yet had a chance to taste the exciting new menus but that is a whole other blog! Here are the some of the brand sparkling new restaurants we at ResortQuest Steamboat are patiently twiddling our forks over!

Newcomers:
  • Truffle Pig: Expected to open June 2010- but we haven’t seen the doors open yet… The Truffle Pig is located slopeside in the One Steamboat Place. The menu featuring casually elegant cuisine crafted from the finest and freshest local ingredients - organic fruits and vegetables, free-range game and meats, line-caught seafood. Expect lunch and dinner served daily, signature daily specials with a big wine and micro brews lists. The Market side will also be open “morning, noon & night” serving coffee, summer picnics, snacks and grab n go items.
  • The Sweetwater Grill: Sweetwater Grill has sprouted new out of the old Yacht Club building that pleasantly sits on the side of the Yampa River. They are expected to be opening July 9th in time for the perfect July weather to be serving lunch and dinner. They are hosting an opening ceremony with Loose Change playing on the back lawn on July 17th. The menu seems to host a light arrange of lemon-Riesling fettuccine, Colorado trout, ginger ribs and fish tacos. The grill also plans to have Sunday afternoon jazz, Wednesday happy hours, and Fridays or Saturdays to host small feature bands in the lounge or on the lawn. One event to mark on your calendars in the Miss the Boat CD release party of Aug. 21st!
New and Exciting:
  • Ciao Gelato: Ciao Gelato has been in Steamboat for some months now, but if you haven’t tried it you must! You get the feel of Italy when you see the delicious pizza slices, Panini, gelato and coffee. The Panini are a screaming deal with awesome flavor combinations. And the pizza is very authentic reminiscent of the pizza street vendors in Rome. Finish it off with Italian gelato made with ingredients straight from Italy! Ciao Bella! They are located on 700 Yampa Street.
  • Bellas: Bellas is Steamboat’s refined wine bar located down stairs below Chocolate Soup on Main Street. The décor makes you and your wine even sexier and the small snack plates are deliciously perfect as you sip wine! Tuesdays offer Piano Piano nights with jazz piano playing, and Wednesdays are for the ladies with free glass of bubbly and chocolate covered strawberries! They are open Tuesday- Sundays 6pm -2am.

  • Barbecue and Barn Dance — The Haven Assisted Living Center, 6 p.m.
    The Haven Assisted Living Center hosts its annual Barbecue and Barn Dance fundraiser. There will be live entertainment by local band Loose Change. Best Places in Steamboat to Watch the FIFA World Cup

GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL! One of the world's largest sporting events will be starting tomorrow Friday June 11, 2010: the FIFA World Cup in soccer. South Africa is hosting this month-long event where 32 teams from around the world will compete to determine the best “futbol” team in the world. For anyone who has ever felt the camaraderie, energy and pure excitement of watching a soccer match with some of the world's most dedicated fans, you know this is something not to miss.

Having said that, many of us are going to miss the opportunity to watch the matches in person. So we have to rely on ESPN do their best to show us the best coverage of the event. Heavy Medal Tour: Lodwick, Spillane, Demong , Camerota Visit Troops

The infamous Steamboat Springs Olympians, Todd Lodwick, Johnny Spillane, Bill Demong and Brett Camerota, won silver in the Nordic Combined in the 2010 Olympics. These athletes have received their medals for representing our country and now they are sharing their medals with the US Troops overseas in Irag.

It is called the Heavy Medal Tour. “We tried to see as many troops as possible and put as many medals around necks as possible," Lodwick said.
They traveled from base to base to place silver medals on the necks of over 10,000 troops recognizing that they were the true heroes.

"You realize that these guys have been over here for a year in a half and put their lives on the line everyday. That's really when it hits home, that these guys give their freedom for ours," Lodwick said.
