Steamboat Snow Record 2011: 350" Inches of Snow

Almost 30 feet of snow has blanketed Steamboat and the Steamboat Ski Resort this 2010/2011 winter season and believe us- this winter really has been epic!  With only a month or so left in this ski season we are dying to see how much more snow we can get! Ranchers in Steamboat like to call this type of deep snow winter a "four-wire" winter.  When so much snow has fallen it stacks up over the 4th row of wires on their fences! That is deep!

According to the Steamboat Ski Resort, "Since October 23rd, snow has fallen 86 out of 137 days with 38 of those days recording four or more inches. In March alone, snow has fallen 5 of 8 days with 2 days recording four or more inches. "

So what do we do with all this snow? We have a epic spring ski conditions that will feel much like mid winter conditions.  You'll be hard pressed to find any rocks or grass sticking out from the slopes this year!  This year's spring conditions and celebrations will be Springalicious- Enjoy tons of outdoor music, sunshine, apres drinks, and end of season unique events! but don't take our word for it- come discover the true epic conditions on your own.  This spring we are offering serious lodging deals, and ski pass deals that will ensure everyone gets some awesome ski turns!

What can possibly make this Friday any better than a potential snowstorm to give everyone some fresh powder to ski in, a Free Bud Light Rocks the Boat Concert with Sam Bush and some good old apres ski entertainment?

Sam Bush is playing tomorrow Friday March 3, 2011 at 3pm at the base of the Steamboat Ski Resort to keep Steamboat Rockin! Sam Bush is Grammy Award winning multi-instrumentalist artist. Sam Bush doesn't seem old enough to be a musical legend. And he's not. But he is. Alternately known as the King of Telluride and the King of Newgrass, Bush has been honored by the Americana Music Association and the International Bluegrass Music Association. But honors are not what drive him. "I didn't get into music to win awards," he says. "I'm just now starting to get somewhere. I love to play and the older I get the more I love it. And I love new things."
I will hoping to hear my favorite songs "Girl of the North Country" and "Same ol' River"!!! Watch the Video below!

Top Five Favorite Restaurants in Steamboat Springs- A Locals Tip!

With so many exceptional restaurants in Steamboat Springs, it can sometimes be a daunting task to choose just a few during your vacation. That's why we're here to help. Below you'll find the ResortQuest Steamboat staff's top five restaurant choices to enhance any trip to Steamboat Springs.

1-Cafe Diva- It is almost torturous to work next door to such an enticing restaurant. Everyday, on our brief passing of Cafe Diva on our way here to there, we are treated to the scents emitting from the restaurant. Ingredients supplied by small farms and ranches, and Chef Kate's fascinating abilities make this one of Steamboat's most coveted locations for a romantic meal with your significant other, or an impressive choice for anyone to suggest for a comforting evening meal. Although it was difficult to have my co-workers choose their favorites from the winter menu, we managed to narrow it down to three: try the elk tenderloin, easily the best on the mountain; for a tasty appetizer, try the duck confit and MouCo cheese crispy spring rolls; or for an interesting sandwich, try the peanut butter and bacon sandwich. Located in the Torian Plum Plaza.   Book your lodging now for the slopeside ski-in ski-out Torian Plum Condos!

2-Mazzola's Majestic Italian Diner-Steamboat Springs knows Italian food! Located in beautiful downtown Steamboat Springs, the atmosphere at Mazzola's is one of the best. Whether your interested in a family meal with the kids, or a quick meal at the bar with friends, you'll find the cure for what ails you at Mazzola's. Design your own perfect pizza pie with the kids, enjoy a crispy calamari appetizer, or savor the butternut squash ravioli with sage-infused marinara sauce.

3-Ore House at the Pine Grove-For a unique Steamboat Springs atmosphere, great steaks, and fresh seafood, visit the Ore House. The Ore House is also a great location for your party or wedding reception needs. The Sunset Menu is a great way to keep costs down and is offered from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. during the winter. Meals are $15.95 during the Sunset Special, and include a side, which can include their amazing all-you-can-eat salad bar. The barn that houses the restaurant dates back to 1889 and is rich with Western history. Try the Steak Ore House, the Rocky Mountain Ruby Red Trout, or the Elk Loin Steak.

4-Saketumi Sushi and Asian-fusion Restaurant- Just because we're in the mountains doesnt mean the sushi will suffer.  Saketumi flies in fresh fish and seafood- so it is always the best quality.  With an intimate atmosphere, this is the perfect location for a romantic meal. With intricate and inventive sushi rolls, you will be delighted by the presentation. Try the Steamboat Crunch roll, the Tree Hugger roll, or The 14'ER roll, or delve into a red or green curry dish. Located in the Torian Plum Plaza-  Stay right at the Torian Plum and have access to amazing restaurants, shopping and ski-in ski-out accommodations!

5-La Montana- Offering a creative gourmet take on Mexican and southwestern dishes, this restaurant is a favorite for our guests. Located on the mountain, this restaurant holds the unique ability to support a range of budgets. Start off with a Cabo Cosmo or create your own special margarita while you wait for your meal.

Get to Steamboat and rest assured that you will always be eating something delicious! Book your lodging now and save big on Spring Skiing! See our current deals!

Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival 2011- Local Insider Tips!

This blog post was written by Lizzie Sack, lifetime Steamboat local and front desk manager at Trappeur's Crossing Resort!  Thanks for the memories and insider tips Lizzie!
As a Steamboat local, there really is nothing more “Steamboat” than the Annual Winter Carnival, Feb 2-6, 2011.  Started in 1914, as a way to help the locals cure their cabin fever during the height of the winter season, it still serves its purpose to this day.  It is truly the best way to celebrate the uniqueness of winter in Steamboat Springs, CO.

The Winter Carnival is known for it's wacky events, fabulous parade, torchlight parades and much more.  See a full line-up of events.  To participate and watch all these fun events you just need to pick up a Winter Carnival Button at any of the events or from the Winter Sports Club.

Growing up here the carnival was always something to look forward to.  As a teenager, it was always a contest in the schools to see which student’s button design would be the winner, to go down in history with your artwork on the button that hundreds of people wear & collect.  Also, they choose the high school group that would create the magnificent snow sculptures that line Lincoln avenue all week.  Students would put off homework to work on their sculpture designs and the prize was no only getting to display your artwork for all to see, but also a day off school to play with our famous Champagne Powder.

The street events are nothing other than some of the strangest and most unique events one has ever seen.  Lincoln avenue is filled with snow and the horses, kids, dads and dogs are rounded up! There is nothing like lining up with the rest of the Steamboat kids waiting for your turn to get on a horse and do the Ring and Spear toss – riding a horse, holding a spear and trying to collect rings suspended from stands- our own little modern day jousting match.

Or perhaps the Street Slalom, imagine getting pulled behind a horse through a slalom course of cones.  Yet, nothing compares to the craziness of the Shovel Race, held only for adults as they are pulled by galloping horses.

Every little girl in Steamboat wanted to be A Little Toots Princess, an honor bestowed upon the young girls in the world famous Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.  Donning the famous Little Toots crown and riding the sleigh through the streets of Steamboat during the parade for all to see, is truly every little girls dream.  And of course there is no princess without a queen.  The Winter Carnival Queen was always the most deserving, hard working and elegant member of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.  This year the honor goes to Natalie Geer.

While all the events that take place are dazzling – The Night Extravaganza is the reigning favorite of the carnival.  The torchlight parade hosts all the Winter Sports Club kids who wind their way down the slope with a lighted torch. As a young girl, skiing down the mountain with 70 of my peers, sliding back and forth down the slope to help introduce the world famous Lighted Man, is one of the most exciting moments of a young, small town girls life.

And as soon as you get to the bottom of the run and turn your eyes up the hill to see The Lighted Man, lit up in all his glory from head to toe in lights, gliding across our powder with thrilling fireworks shooting out of his backpack, is something you know you will never experience again in your lifetime.

The Night Extravaganza is finished off the daredevils skiing down Howelsen Hill, jumping through a flaming ring of fire.  To this day, I still remember the terror I felt when I saw the first skier fall after jumping through the flaming ring.  Not to worry, no one was hurt.

Yet, nothing is more famous or one of its kind in the world than the Steamboat Springs High School Ski Band.  The Ski Band first appeared 1935 and to this day they are the only marching band in the world to march on skis.  The buzz around the high school band room for the two weeks prior to Winter Carnival is nothing but excitement, nerves are a thing of the past, these kids grew up skiing or snowboarding, it is their second nature.

Whether you are a first timer to Steamboat during this extraordinary event or have seen it many times, there is always an excitement that is the air, and I can almost guarantee that this year’s 98th Winter Carnival will be something that you will never forget and always think of when you remember your fabulous trip to Ski Town, USA.

Book your lodging with ResortQuest Steamboat now to get the best deals for the Winter Carnival lodging!  If you can't make this event book now and get 30% for Spring!

Best Places to Watch the Super Bowl XLV in Steamboat Springs

By Favia, one of our ResortQuest Steamboat reservations specialists and locals!

With football season coming to an end, and the Super Bowl upon us, this Sunday Feb.6, 2011 will be a huge game between the Packers and the Steelers! For many, the need for great food, yummy beer, and of course a big screen is crucial to the Super Bowl Experience! IF you are on vacation don't let the unfamiliarity of a ski town and the need for the big screen may seem overwhelming.  I have decided to put Steamboat to the test for such accommodations and find out what places offer the best seat for next Sunday’s big game.

Best Places to Watch 2011 Super Bowl In Steamboat

Big House Burgers seems to have the best deals around. The deals for Super Bowl are 50-cent wings, $2 drafts, and $1 PBR on top of their “Sunday Fun day” deals! The restaurant has taken a lot of pride in their flat screen TVs surrounding their large dining areas. Big House Burgers is located just a quick shuttle ride away on the west end of Steamboat.

Slopeside Grill is another hot spot for the game. Be prepared for game day fans mingling with ski fans. Slopeside offers a great selection of delicious foods ranging from fried ravioli, pizzas, pastas, and of course a big plate of game day nachos! Slopeside allows for viewing of the game from anywhere in the bar. Slopeside is the best combination of Après Ski and Super Bowl fun.  The Slopeside Grill is located in the Torian Plum Plaza steps away from the Torian Plum and Bronze Tree condos.

Tap House Sports Bar is the best place downtown to watch the Super Bowl. It does feature one of the most & largest Big Screens TVs in town. Every flat screen TVs will be showing the game giving you best views. If you have kiddos watching the game with you, there are arcade games to entertain them. To fit the spirit of Game Day, Tap House serves a healthy proportion of Stadium Food that includes a ¼ pound dog loaded with chili, melted cheese, and red onions. Wash down the Stadium Dog with one of the 21 beers that they offer on tap.

Whether you are a Packers fan or a Steelers fan, everyone will be cheering for the excellent food, beer, and TVs setups found in Steamboat Springs for Game Day!

2. Steamboat Botanic Gardens
Managed by the Steamboat Parks & Recreation, this lush six-acre site features ponds, colorful annuals and perennials, numerous evergreen and deciduous trees and delightful sculptures.  My co-worker was married in this beautiful location and had a wonderful time.  There were cruiser bicycles waiting for his wedding guests to ride to the wedding reception along the neighboring Yampa Valley Core Trail.  This is a fun paved seven mile trail that runs along the meandering Yampa River.  The wedding guests commented that the wedding was a very memorable treat. Contact Kiki for more info on reserving the area.
