Top Three Hikes In Steamboat Springs,CO

To find great hiking in Steamboat is not only easily accessible but it is really fun and gets you some amazing views quickly! Hiking in Steamboat is one of my favorite locations around Colorado mainly for the fact that is has all the things I like best about hiking: great views, not too extreme, amazing wildflowers and its fun. Here are the top three hikes right in Steamboat that can be accessed by walking, taking the bus, riding a bike or driving to the trail head!

1. Fish Creek Falls
Beginners or Families: This is a must do hike for anyone who visits or lives in Steamboat. And the falls There are two short easy walks for families. One leads out of the parking lot on a paved trail that is an interpretive walk to the falls overlook. Or head out of the parking lot down the hill to the bridge looking up at the base of the falls.
Adventurous: If you are feeling adventurous continue up the trail from the bridge and hike 2.5 miles to the scenic upper falls that sits in a gorgeous steep valley.
  • How to get to Fish Creek: From downtown Steamboat head north on third street one block and turn right onto Fish Creek Falls Rd. Follow the road for about 3 miles until it dead ends at the parking lot which will cost $5 dollars a day.
2. Mount Werner/ Steamboat Ski Area
Beginners or Families: Hiking and Mountain Biking take place on the Ski Resort in the summer. These are moderate to difficult hikes. Grab a detailed trail map at the Information Center in Gondola Square.
  • How to get there: From downtown Steamboat drive east on US 40 to Mount Werner Road Exit. Head north to the Knoll Parking Lot and walk across Mount Werner Circle to the Gondola Square at the base of the Steamboat Ski Resort.
3. Spring Creek Trail:
This is a really popular trail that is about 3.6 miles long. It is very popular with hikers, runners & bikers. The trail climbs up 1,200 feet to the Dry Lake Campground atop Buffalo Pass. It starts as a wide dirt road to a well maintained single track trail.
Beginners or Families: An easy place to stop is the little reservoir and picnic area just about 1 mile from the parking lot.
  • How to get there: From downtown Steamboat turn north onto 3rd Street and right onto Pine Street which turns into E. Maple Street. Proceed straight across the intersection with Amethyst Dr. and park on either side of the road.
