Art Shows, Live Music & Celebrating the Yampa! Activities and Events in Steamboat for May 28-June 3, 2010

Summer is about to be here in Steamboat and the scenery is gorgeous with the electric green hue of all the new grass and budding trees. The scene around town for May 28- June 3, 2010 is still hopping with live music, art shows, & Memorial day weekend is busy with the Yampa River Festival and Paddling Life Pro Invitational. Friday May 28, 2010
  • David Taylor Quilt Show Opening Reception: 5 to 8 pm: Free
    A new exhibit at Steamboat Art Museum will put the colorful work of local quilter David Taylor under one roof for the first time. 801 Lincoln Ave.
  • Yampa River Festival kickoff party : Sunpie’s Bistro, 5 p.m. Free.

  • 30th annual Yampa River Festival: Yampa River, starting at noon
    A free riverboard surf competition is at noon at Charlie’s Hole behind Bud Werner Memorial Library. The raft race is at noon at River Creek Park and costs $10 per person. The crazy river dog competition is at 1 p.m. at the D-Hole (adjacent to the Depot Art Center, 1001 13th St.) and costs $15. The tube rodeo is at 2 p.m., and the kayak rodeo is at 3 p.m. at Charlie’s Hole; they cost $10 and $15. Events are free to watch. Visit http://friendsoftheyampa.com.
  • Randy Kelley and Sundog: Depot Art Center, 6 p.m.
    Local musicians perform as part of the Yampa River Festival. A $10 donation covers dinner, drinks and dancing. 1001 13th St.

  • Yampa River Festival : Yampa River, starting at 10 a.m.
    The kayak slalom starts at 10 a.m. and costs $15 to enter. The junior rodeo is from 2 to 4 p.m. and costs $10 to enter. Practice runs for the Paddling Life Pro Invitational are at 4 p.m. at Fish Creek and Charlie’s Hole (behind Bud Werner Memorial Library, 13th Street and Lincoln Avenue). Events are free to watch.   • Judge Roughneck:Ghost Ranch Saloon, 9 p.m. $5 cover
    Denver-based Judge Roughneck combines ska and reggae music. 56 Seventh St.

  • Yampa River Festival :Yampa River, events start at 10 a.m.
    The Paddling Life Pro Invitational starts at 10 a.m. with a creek race starting at Middle Fish Creek/the water treatment plant. A freestyle event is 1 p.m. at Charlie’s Hole behind Bud Werner Memorial Library. The awards party is at 6 p.m. at The Boathouse Pub, 609 Yampa St. Events are free to watch.
