Friday, April 9, 2010:
  • Pirate Theatre presents “Elementary School Musical”: The Steamboat Grand, 8 p.m.No local, national or international issue is off limits in this original comedy put on by local spoof group Pirate Theatre. The show features music, dancing, a celebrity appearance and more. Tickets are $20 and are available in advance at All That Jazz. Shows continue at 8 p.m. Saturday.   • The Acoustic Mining Company w/ Missed the Boat :Ghost Ranch Saloon, 9 p.m. FREE.The Denver bluegrass quartet takes steps toward a new brand of bluegrass, putting its brand on a style with traditional roots. Local folk rock and bluegrass group Missed the Boat is set to play at 11 p.m. 56 Seventh St.

  • 30th annual Cardboard Classic: Base of the Steamboat Ski Area, 11 a.m.
    Teams in children’s and adult categories showcase their creativity in this annual event featuring crafts made from cardboard, string, glue, tape and paint. Check-in for registered teams is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday; racing starts at 11 a.m. Registration closes today. Sunday April 11, 2010 (closing day)
  • Third annual Splashdown Pond Skim: Base of the Steamboat Ski Area, 1 p.m.
    Competitors sport costumes and attempt to cross an icy pond on skis or a snowboard. Check-in for registered skimmers is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Registration for the event closes Saturday.
