Activities and Events in Steamboat Springs for the week of April 30- May 6, 2010!

The spring Colorado weather is at its craziest with snowy days then sunshine with a few tough daffodils emerging. But in between the strange weather Steamboat is rocking with activities and events you shouldn’t miss. To see a full schedule see the Steamboat Pilot.

  • Lunafest — Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library, 8 p.m.
    Featuring short films created by and focusing on women, Lunafest is a collection of 10 independent films covering various cultures and topics. The traveling film festival presents more than 140 screenings each year. There is a $10 suggested donation at the door. The bulk of the proceeds — 85 percent — will go to local causes, the Bust of Steamboat and the Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project. Remaining proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Fund.   • Peace Officer — Mahogany Ridge Brewery and Grill, 10 p.m.
    Peace Officer is a Fort Collins-based dub and hip-hop band. Read an interview with a member of the band on page at www.exploresteamboat.com. Cover charge to be determined. 435 Lincoln Ave.

  • Kentucky Derby Party — The Powder Room at St. Cloud Mountain Club, 12:30 p.m.
    A Kentucky Derby party to benefit the Humble Ranch Education and Therapy Center begins at 12:30 p.m. in The Powder Room at St. Cloud Mountain Club on Ski Time Square Drive. The event includes mint juleps, live music and dancing. Tickets cost $20 for the plaza and $60 for the VIP area.   • Eighth annual Great North Routt Chili Cook-off — Glen Eden Family Restaurant & Tavern, 3 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $40 for families and free for children younger than 7. Registration for competitors is $10. Dishes should be at the Glen Eden by 1 p.m. Sunday. The Glen Eden is at 54737 Routt County Road 129 in Clark.   • Writer’s lecture series — Epilogue Book Co., noon

  • Live trivia — The Tap House Sports Grill, 6:30 p.m.

  • Cabaret, “No Strings Attached” — Strings Music Pavilion, 7:30 p.m.
    Cabaret is the annual variety show fundraiser for the Steamboat Springs Arts Council. This year’s show, titled “No Strings Attached,” is sure to feature the uproarious, locally focused jokes Cabaret does best. The Cabaret band starts at 7 p.m. Shows continue May 7 and 8. Tickets are $30 and are available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Depot Art Center. Call 879-9008 for more information.
