Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Concerts in Steamboat, Spring 2010

Spring hasn't shown up quite yet, however, the Bud Light Rocks The Boat Free Concert Series is ready to go for Spring 2010.

This Spring’s lineup consists of 4 unique bands playing their sweet tunes in the high mountain air with the backdrop of Steamboat Ski Resort.

The first band to play will be Easy Star All Stars on March 13, at 3pm in the Gondola Square. Rock out to this funky reggae rock band that specializes in covering popular albums, their most recent album Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band released in April.

March 20th , Lyrics Born will invade Steamboat for a funky pop, hip-hop concert that will leave you in a musical whirl-wind. Lyrics Born has over 150 sold out shows. Don’t miss the show. Be in the Gondola Square at 3 to see Lyrics Born.

Pimps of Joytime will arrive on Saturday March 27, bringing a unique mix of funk, soul, hip-hop, African and Latin beats. They have played across the world from London to San Francisco. They will make you get up and dance to their booty shakin’ grooves. 3pm Gondola Square.

And April 3rd Dirty Heads will be playing their California hip-hop blended reggae to Steamboat. They’re known well in Southern California and hit the stage with bold beats, great rhythms and feel-good lyrics.

How Lisa Bought a Steamboat Springs Vacation for $5

Denver Woman wins $5,500 Steamboat Springs Ski Vacation in ResortQuest $1-A-Day Vacation Treasure Hunt 

Lisa H. of Denver, Colo., is only going to spend $5 on her husband's anniversary present this year because she won the latest ResortQuest Vacation Treasure Hunt contest Tuesday, Feb. 9. Lisa won a five-night stay for $1 a day at the Torian Plum in the Creekside Condominiums, one of the premier ski-in/ski-out properties in Steamboat Springs, Colo. The vacation at the gold-rated two-bedroom, three-bath condo is valued at $5,500.

"I am from Denver and am somewhat familiar with the local resorts," said Lisa. "I decided to study all the ResortQuest websites so I could learn what each resort had to offer, and familiarize myself with the resort properties located outside Colorado. I started studying the sites when I didn't get the "catch-em‚ clue from a couple weeks ago that would have been a big clue!"

Lisa says the timing of her five-day ski vacation couldn't have been better, as it is just a couple of weeks before her third wedding anniversary.

"I love scavenger hunts and have been trying for the last three weeks to win this one," she said. "For me, this contest was more for the adventure than the prize. but now that I won, I am very excited about the trip!"

Tuesday's contest was the fourth of 11 weekly promotions featuring a different ResortQuest vacation rental property,a condo, vacation home or hotel suite, at a ski destination in Aspen, Breckenridge/Keystone or Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Park City, Utah, or Sun Valley, Idaho.

Torian Plum Creekside Resort‚s #316 features two bedrooms and three baths, and sleeps six. The ski-in/ski-out condo is close to a six-person chairlift and just 100 yards from the Steamboat Ski Resort Gondola. The condominium is located near exclusive shops and restaurants, including Café Diva and Saketumi, as well as the popular après-ski scene at Slopeside Bar. ResortQuest offers on-call shuttle service at Torian Plum Creekside from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily during ski season.

The Treasure Hunt is held every week until March 30. The next contest starts Tuesday, Feb. 16, at noon EST.

To participate, treasure hunters navigate through ResortQuest's ski-destination Web sites to locate a hidden treasure map icon. The treasure map reveals the toll-free number and promotion code needed to call and claim the prize. The Web site offers clues to help treasure hunters find the location of the map. New clues are continually added until someone finds the map and calls to claim the treasure.

Steamboat Ski Town USA Winter Olympian Send-Off Celebration

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games are only 10 days away! Steamboat - fondly known as Ski Town USA - has produced 69 winter Olympians and counting, more than any other town in North America, let alone the world!

It is not just one company or entity that has helped Steamboat Springs reach its status as Ski Town USA, it’s the entire community. That’s why it’s only appropriate that the entire town will host a send off for all of the Winter Olympians going to the 2010 Games in Vancouver.

The event will feature a video presentation of past and present Steamboat Olympians, big screen TV, fireworks, live music and the lighting of the town’s own 15-foot tall community Winter Games Caldron, which will burn on the lawn of the downtown Courthouse throughout the Olympics.

Join thousands, including numerous past Olympians, as the community celebrates its Olympic heritage that spans all skiing disciplines and send off Steamboat’s next generation of Winter Olympians.

Denver-area sports personality Drew Soicher will be the master of ceremonies for Steamboat’s planned Olympic bash. “Steamboat is my favorite place in Colorado,” Soicher said. “Every time I come up there, I like it even more.”

Soicher said that struck him the first time he came to Steamboat. “I thought they had to be phonies,” Soicher said. “They were so nice.” The sports anchor has returned to Steamboat about 15 times and said he found the people to be just as nice as the first time he came. “Nobody can be phony for that long,” Soicher said. “I finally realized that the people of Steamboat Springs really are that nice. It’s amazing to me, but nobody ever seems to be in a bad mood.”

Steamboat has hosted two other Olympic send-offs in recent memory.

In 2002, the event drew 5,000 people downtown before the Olympics in Salt Lake City, and in 2006 an estimated 10,000 people showed up at the rodeo grounds for a send-off for the Olympics in Turin, Italy. The event was anchored by a concert by Hootie & the Blowfish.

“The 2002 Olympic send-off was one of the proudest moments in my career,” said Andy Wirth, president of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s board of directors and senior vice president of sales and marketing for Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. He said that he was proud of how the community pulled together after 9/11 and that he was proud of the support Steamboat showed that year.

Try Airboarding & Live Your Olympic Luge Dreams in Steamboat!

Over the past few weeks we have been talking about the many ways you can Live your Winter Olympic Dreams in Steamboat Springs, Colo., (more fondly known as Ski Town USA). Airboarding was created by a gentleman by the name of Joe Steiner of Switzerland. After being hurt snowboarding, Joe still wanted to ride the Swiss Alps he had been shredding for years on his snowboard. After ten years of experimentation, he introduced the world’s first snow bodyboard and redefined sledding.

Not like your average sled, the Airboard can actually carve turns down a slope. With molded runners on the bottom curve, one can actually learn to drive these boards by shifting bodyweight. The faster you go; the better control you will have. Seriously! This looks like SOOOOOO much fun!

So where can you try Airboarding in Steamboat Springs?

A local Steamboat company, Boardom Bound is offering two kinds of trips to experience this new board sport. They can take you to play on the local spots here in the city limits or we can venture into the backcountry. In the backcountry we will have unlimited amounts of hills to play on and powder to enjoy. We can even pack your snowboard or skis and get a few classic turns in that way.

“Sledding and tubing, those are fun, but who knows what path you’re going to take?” said Danny Tebbenkamp who runs Boardom Bound. “When I was a kid, and we went sledding, it was about hanging on as long as you could before you plowed into something that would hurt you. With this, you can steer right around those things. You might be able to steer a sled, but this has much quicker response.” \

There aren’t any trees on his runs to get in the way, and a “fall” isn’t tough because even after flying off the lip of a jump, riders are never more than about two feet off the ground.

A three-hour session with Boardom Bound includes the sleds, helmets, transportation and rides on snowmobiles to ferry boarders from the bottom of the slopes to the top.
