Art reception: Gregory Block. RED Contemporary, 5 to 9 p.m. Local artist
Gregory Block is featured with minimalist, abstract works. Call 819-8994 for more information. RED Contemporary is an art gallery in the Sheraton Steamboat Resort.

Tasty Vittles: The Boathouse Pub, 10 p.m. Free
Tasty Vittles features several local rock musicians who throw down some awesome music. 609 Yampa St.

Saturday, Feb. 20
Steamboat Springs Orchestra Winter Soiree: Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library, 5:30 p.m. Sara Sant’Ambrogio — a classical cello soloist and Erotica Trio member — gives an intimate concert featuring selections from two recent classical CDs. Local pianist Marie Carmichael joins her on several selections. Tickets are $125 and include food and drink. Availability is limited. Proceeds benefit the Steamboat Springs Orchestra. Acoustic open mic night : The Boathouse Pub, 7 p.m.

Open mic night for writers: Off the Beaten Path Bookstore, 6 to 8 p.m.
As something different from its monthly Poetry Slam, Off the Beaten Path hosts an open mic night for writers of all kinds. Each writer will have 10 minutes and is encouraged to share original work. Registration starts at 5:45 p.m. Call 879-6830 for more information. 68 Ninth St.

Wednesday, Feb. 24
Ultraviolet Hippopotamus: The Tugboat Grill & Pub, 10 p.m. $5
Six-piece jam band Ultraviolet Hippopotamus uses solid musicianship to give structure to its blend of jazz, rock, reggae, funk, blues and electronica. Bassist and band founder Brian Samuels said the band tries to “make sure we hit every end of the spectrum that we find entertaining” in an October 2009 interview. 1860 Ski Time Square.

Thursday, Feb 25
38th annual Steamboat Dance Theatre Concert: Steamboat Springs High School, 7 p.m.
An annual fundraiser by Steamboat Dance Theatre, this concert is a volunteer effort featuring locally choreographed and produced pieces in dance styles including African, ballet, hip-hop, belly, funk and Irish. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $20 for reserved seating and $12 for students and seniors.Go to www.steamboatdancetheatre.org for more information.

Stockholm Syndrome, w/ These United States: Sheraton Steamboat Resort, 8 p.m.
Stockholm Syndrome is a rock band featuring Dave Schools, who has played bass for Widespread Panic. The band blends a strange take on folk music with an affinity for sturdy rock songs. Tickets for the show are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Call 879-2220.
