Winter is Here! Steamboat Events and Activities: Nov. 12-18, 2010

Steamboat Ski Area will be opening on Wednesday, November 24! The snow guns are fired up and making snow, 93 of them to be exact. Mother Nature is also helping with opening day preparations with plans to continuing snowing well into next week.

Until then, here are my top picks for fun things to do around town in Steamboat Springs this week:

Friday, November 12
  • The Hillbenders-Depot Art Center: This new Depot Show Concert Series features an acoustic bluegrass band from Springfield, Mo. Winner of the Telluride Band Contest in 2008, this group just recently released their debut album. Sponsored by the Steamboat Springs Arts Council. Tickets are $15. 7:30 pm.
Saturday, November 13
  • "From Sorrow to Joy"- United Methodist Church. Yampa Valley Singers and Steamboat Chamber Singers perform to a multimedia presentation including photos, local musicians, and readings from historical literature including works by John Lennon and Ghandi. The theme of this concert is expressed as such-"Within a day or lifetime, we all experience transformations from sorrow to joy." Tickets are $10 Sat. 7 pm, Sun. 3 pm.
  • QuarterMoon: Sweetwater Grill 7PM
    Americana Rock- this local band will get you moving with there sweet sounds. Head to the Sweetwater.
Sunday, November 14
  • Live trivia : Rio Grand Mexican Restaurant 6:30 p.m. Free!
    Test your nonessential knowledge in four rounds of questions, with categories including sports, history, food and music. 628 Lincoln Ave.

Thursday, November 18

  • "Crazy For You"-Steamboat Springs High School auditorium. The Steamboat Springs High School drama program presents its fall musical. Performances Thursday-Sunday 7 pm. Tickets are $10 adults, $5 students, $3 SSHS students.
