Upcoming Events & Activities for the week of Oct. 15-21, 2010

Steamboat received its first snowfall of the season this past week and with that comes the anticipation of more to come. In the meantime there's still plenty to do in Steamboat Springs during these gorgeous autumn days and cool Rocky Mountain nights; activities that are sure to leave you relaxed and rejuvenated until you strap on those boards!

Here's my picks for the upcoming week:

Friday, Oct. 15
  • Sisters in Steamboat Weekend: Welcome Wine Reception "Taste of Steamboat", Bud Werner Memorial Library, Library Hall, 5:30-7:30 pm. $20
  • Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Ski & Sport Swap: Steamboat Springs Middle School, 7 pm. This events supports the athletes of the SSWSC. Admission is $5
  • Foreign Film Series: "1981" at the Depot Arts Center, 7 pm, FREE
  • The Tugboat Grill & Pub: Full Belly, Boulder-based funk rock band, 9:30 pm. $5
Saturday, Oct. 16
  • Sisters in Steamboat Weekend: Enrichment workshops, lectures, and demonstrations, various locations around downtown Steamboat Springs, 8 am-4 pm
  • Little Black Dress "Eat Dessert First" Party for Sisters in Steamboat: 5:00-7:30 pm at The Sweetwater Grill, $35
  • Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Ski & Sport Swap: Steamboat Springs Middle School, 8 am-3 pm, FREE
  • Wedding Expo: Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association hosts this event at the Depot Art Center, 10 am-2 pm, FREE + free food and wedding vendors
Sunday, Oct. 17
  • Sisters in Steamboat Weekend: Yoga, bellydance, coffee tasting, and a Yampatika hike close out the weekend's festivities, 8 am-12:15, various locations around Steamboat Springs
  • Free Dance Class: Bud Werner Memorial Library, Library Hall, 10 am. Learn to belly dance with Courtney Anderson, sponsored by the Steamboat Dance Theater
  • Live Trivia: Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant, 6:30 pm. Test your non-essential knowledge in four rounds of questions with categories including sports, history, food, and music. FREE. 628 Lincoln Ave.
Monday, Oct. 18

  • Songwriters in the Round: Spend an intimate evening with three award winning songwriters at First String Music, 1880 Loggers Ln. Show begins at 7:30 with limited seating. $15
  • Expressions of the Spirit: Writing workshop with local writer and life coach Susan de Wardt. Sundance Plaza, 12-2 pm. $25
Wednesday, Oct. 20
  • Open Community Meditation: Yoga Studio Rx at The Bear River Center, 7:15 pm, FREE
  • One Book Steamboat: In honor of Steamboat Springs community book read of "To Kill a Mockingbird," Bud Werner Memorial Library presents an evening with author and filmmaker Mary McDonagh Murphy. Guests will screen Murphy's documentary "Hey Boo: Harper Lee & To Kill a Mockingbird." 6:30 pm.
Thursday, Oct. 21
  • Live Music: Eric Delaney and Friends, Saketumi, 5 pm. FREE
  • Steamboat Springs Writer's Group: Local writers get together and share their work, Depot Arts Center, noon. FREE
