• Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul — Strings Music Pavilion, 7 p.m.
  Enjoy a special Strings Music Festival off-season performance with fiddler Eileen Ivers. Steamboat Ski Area will be opening on Wednesday, November 24! The snow guns are fired up and making snow, 93 of them to be exact. Mother Nature is also helping with opening day preparations with plans to continuing snowing well into next week.

• The Hillbenders-Depot Art Center: This new Depot Show Concert Series features an acoustic bluegrass band from Springfield, Mo. Winner of the Telluride Band Contest in 2008, this group just recently released their debut album. Sponsored by the Steamboat Springs Arts Council. Tickets are $15. 7:30 pm.

Saturday, November 13

• "From Sorrow to Joy"- United Methodist Church. Yampa Valley Singers and Steamboat Chamber Singers perform to a multimedia presentation including photos, local musicians, and readings from historical literature including works by John Lennon and Ghandi. The theme of this concert is expressed as such-"Within a day or lifetime, we all experience transformations from sorrow to joy." Tickets are $10 Sat. 7 pm, Sun. 3 pm.

Steamboat Springs Quiznos Pro Challenge Bike Race Announces Colorado’s Stops

Steamboat Springs, CO is a major hub during “the greatest bike race ever to be held on American soil” from August 22-28, 2011! Steamboat will be the end of stage 5 as tired riders come in from Avon, Co and the beginning of stage 6 as riders take off to make it to Breckenridge, CO!

The Quiznos Pro Challenge has announced the tour dates and stage stopping points in cities across Colorado including Aspen, Avon, Breckenridge, Colorado Springs, Crested Butte, Denver, Golden, Gunnison, Salida, Steamboat Springs and Vail.

The Quiznos Pro Challenge is a grueling, 600 mile, seven day race through the most majestic and treacherous terrain Colorado and the Rocky Mountains have to offer.

Specific route details were not released, but the start and finish spots indicate a very mountainous route, with few sprinter stages. “We had so much interest from incredible cities across Colorado that we could hold an event of twice the duration,” said Ellen Kramer, Quiznos chief communications officer. “We worked diligently throughout the selection process to incorporate cities that provide terrain that is unique to Colorado and delivers one of the most exciting cycling events in the world. The selected cities will make excellent partners and provide a demanding course for the world’s top cyclists.”

The announcement was made at a press conference held on the front steps of the Colorado State Capitol Building in front a crowd of approximately 1,000 people convened to later take part in a social bike ride lead by Armstrong, who announced the ride via Twitter several days prior.

“We are an American team based in Colorado so we're extremely excited about the Quiznos Pro
Challenge,” said Ryder Hesjedal, seventh-place finisher at the 2010 Tour de France. “Colorado has some of the best training grounds in North America and the racing is going to be incredible.”

“Our mission is to create an experience that is unique to the state of Colorado while remaining focused on our goal of building one of the preeminent sporting properties in North America,” said Joe Moller, president of the Quiznos Pro Challenge. “The website is just the beginning of our ascent into the digital space for the Quiznos Pro Challenge.”

  As a part of the second annual Steamboat All Arts Festival, the Steamboat Chamber Resort Association and the Steamboat Springs Arts Council present the heart of the weekend event. • Free Summer Concert Series with Emmitt-Nershi Band: Howelsen Hill, 6 p.m.
  The front men from popular Colorado jam bands Leftover Salmon and The String Cheese Incident join in a high-energy acoustic bluegrass ensemble. It will be the final installment of the Free Summer Concert Series. Trevor G. Potter with Rural Wreckage will open the show. Fifth Street and Howelsen Parkway.
• Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series: Brent Romick Rodeo Arena, 7:30 p.m.
  Cowboys and cowgirls compete at classic rodeo events. Barbecue will be sold starting at 6 p.m., and pre-rodeo entertainment runs from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the gate for adults and $8 for children ages 7 to 15. Children 6 and younger are free. Howelsen Parkway and Fifth Street.
• Asleep at the Wheel: Strings Music Pavilion, 8 p.m.
  The 40-year-old Western band plays the final weekend of Strings Music Festival. Asleep recently was awarded the Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award for Performing for its tenure in the Western music scene. The band plays a lively mix of big band, swing and country. • Golden Dragon Acrobats: Strings Music Pavilion, 3 p.m.
  With dazzling costumes, music and acrobatics, the performers will demonstrate ancient traditions from Hebei, China. They will perform feats of balance, aerial skill, contortion and dexterity. • “Dirty Deeds at the Depot”: Depot Art Center, 7:30 p.m.
  As a part of the Steamboat All Arts Festival, local actors will perform a Western melodrama set at a train depot. The performance tells the story of a young maiden torn between two men. Complete with villains and heroes, the interactive theater experience is a must-see for families. Tickets are $10. Call 970-879-9008. 1001 13th St.
• Missed The Boat: Sweetwater Grill, 7:30 to 10 p.m.
  Steamboat’s own rocking folk bluegrass band celebrates the release of its new self-titled album. A stage will be set up in the lawn next to the restaurant, and Jesse Christiansen and an African drum group will open the show. FREE. Call 970-879-9500. Eighth and Yampa streets.

Keb’ Mo’ Brings the Blues to Steamboat Springs

“Keb' Mo's pieces are daydreams on the blues,” says the New York Times about singer songwriter and guitarist Keb’ Mo’ who will be playing Friday Aug. 6, 2010 at the Strings Music Festival.

Keb’ Mo’s music is commonly referred to as a living link to the seminal Delta blues that traveled up the Mississippi river before crossing the expanse of America.

Keb’ Mo’, a three-time Grammy Award winner for Contemporary Blues Album, was also nominated for a Grammy with the Dixie Chicks for a country song they co-wrote. He was named Acoustic Blues Artist of the Year at the 1997 W.C. Handy Awards.

“If there is such as thing as happy blues, then the man for that is Keb’ Mo’… there's a lot of fine musicianship and classy songwriting, while still keeping something of an attachment to more the traditional acoustic blues sound,” The Graham Weekly says.

Tour de Steamboat will have renowned biker Andy Hampsten Riding for the Cause!

Tour de Steamboat is scheduled for July 17, 2010 here in Steamboat and the event is happy to be graced with one of the nation’s most acclaimed cyclists Andy Hampsten!

Hampsten will be riding in the Tour de Steamboat which is a long 100 mile ride that includes three mountain passes! Watch out riders your thighs will be on fire! In it’s sixth year, the Tour de Steamboat is a great event which benefits the Sunshine Kids foundation.

For those of us who are familiar with the Steamboat’s newest biking fundraiser the Ride 4 Yellow, we know that Lance Armstrong is coming to town for that ride. And admittedly some of us aren’t as familiar with Hampsten. But as the Steamboat Pilot wrote, “The Tour de Steamboat, scheduled for July 17, will feature Andy Hampsten, America’s Lance Armstrong before Lance was Lance.”

Hampsten is still the only non-European to have won the Giro d’Italia, taking that crown in 1988. He helped usher Greg LeMond to a Tour de France title and finished fourth himself in 1986 and 1992. He’s also a repeat winner of the Tour de Suisse. So really is the Lance-

The Tour de Steamboat benefits the Sunshine Kids with is a non-profit dedicated to providing fun activities for children battling cancer. It allows them to be kids for a day and forget about their health related worries.

“Hey, we have Andy Hampsten and Kent Eriksen,” Tour de Steamboat co-director Katie Lindquist said with a laugh, lining up her event’s star-power against the recently announced news that Armstrong will ride in the Aug. 8 Ride 4 Yellow event in Steamboat Springs. Either way both events are phenomenal local fundraisers that greatly benefit the Steamboat community.

  Featuring short films created by and focusing on women, Lunafest is a collection of 10 independent films covering various cultures and topics. Fundraiser for the Free Summer Concerts to Continue! March 26, 2010

Have you ever been to one of the infamous Free Summer Concerts in Steamboat Springs, CO? Then you know how phenomenal it is to be in the clear mountain air, rocking out to awesome famous bands and dancing with friends and it’s all for free!

Well the Free Summer Concert Series is in trouble! And it needs your help to ensure that the concerts continue. All you have to do is come to the Old Town Pub on Friday night at 8:30 and pay $15 dollars that go to the cause while you get to dance to the fantastic bands Missed the Boat, and Little Laura’s Naked Blues Band. All it takes is $15 bucks that would well cover what it would have cost to see all those free concerts and you’re ensuring that your summer will still have this staple event!
