Steamboat Opening Day on Thanksgiving; Scholarship Day tomorrow!

Fellow Steamboat twitterers were chirping excitedly over the past few days about the snow storm this weekend in Steamboat Springs, with snow reports ranging from a foot to 7 inches. Whatever the total, the snowstorm that lasted most of Monday has ensured that the Steamboat Ski Area is on track to open nine runs for Wednesday’s Scholarship Day (tomorrow!!), the traditional first day of the ski season.

Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. spokeswoman Loryn Kasten said consistently cold weather during the past weeks and new equipment have created good conditions to fill the lower runs on Mount Werner.

The Christie Peak Express and Preview lifts will serve green runs Yoo Hoo, Boulevard, Right-O-Way, Preview and Stampede; blue runs Jess’ Cut-Off, Sitz and Vogue; and black run See Me on Wednesday, with more trails opening as soon as they are ready.

Ski Corp. reported that this is about the same amount of terrain opened for Scholarship Day in previous years, but improved snowmaking equipment has created a better base.

Steamboat’s Men Get Dressed Up for Outside Magazine

Anyone who has ever lived in, or even visited Steamboat Springs, CO, knows that Steamboat is relaxed, Steamboat is gorgeous, and Steamboat is home to some of the most handsome men in all of Colorado’s ski towns. Lodwick said Thursday for the Steamboat Pilot, “You know the economy is going to pot when a Nordic guy is on the cover.” The group spent a day shooting at the Steamboat Ski Resort back in April. All were amazed by the photo shoot set up including the massive amounts of expensive clothes. “They made us all look a lot better than we do,” said Adam Spector.
